Captain Luna is passionate about sharing knowledge, skills, experiences, values, ideas, and thoughts on the seafaring profession. It aims to inspire and help seafarers reach their personal and career goals. It provides a venue for interaction, continuous learning, collaboration, opportunities, and growth.
Seafaring is not just a job, it’s a passion.
EXTREME PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHALLENGES
Seafarers with passion are built for extreme physical and mental challenges. They view extreme weather, extended work hours, and difficult work settings as challenges to their physical endurance and mental strength.
REFLECT | APPRECIATE | PLAN
Seafarers with passion find opportunities in isolation to reflect, appreciate, and plan. They welcome long sea passages and isolation as windows of opportunity to reflect on their existence and purpose, to appreciate the value of family and people whom they care for, to gain new knowledge and skills, and to plan for the future.
RESILIENCE AND FAITH
Seafarers with passion build resilience and faith amid adversities. They see storms as nature in action and treat them with respect, caution, and care. Storms at sea builds resilience and strengthens the faith to face, endure, and overcome life’s storms.
TRAVEL | CONNECT | LEARN
Seafarers with passion love to travel, connect and learn. They make the most out of their time and opportunities in port to travel to places, to meet and connect with people, to appreciate various cultures, and to learn about issues confronting humanity and the environment.

My aim is to raise awareness of the maritime profession Through my blog posts, I aim to provide a venue for interaction and continuous learning for seafarers. I also aim to inspire the young, and mentor the ‘newbies’ in the profession, to help them reach their goals. For me, personal experience is paramount. And that’s how I aim my content to be, including the various media that I share. Truly, a view of seafaring, and the world and its people presented from a sailor’s perspective.
Learning about people, places, and technology has always been my passion. In my teens back in the ‘80s, I have come to know personally about places and different cultures without leaving my home. Thanks to my shortwave radio listening hobby and correspondence with overseas radio stations by mail. And since then, it has been my goal to travel and experience first-hand how the world is like and its people. As an adult, I had to earn a living. And what better way to achieve my goal than by pursuing a career at sea.
The eldest among three siblings, I was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines. I owe my fascination with electronics and radio communications from my father. And from my mother, the desire to go out and see the world. I obtained my degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of San Carlos in 1991. The following year, I became a licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer. I dipped into the corporate world and landed in a couple of jobs in electronics manufacturing. I also had a stint in college teaching.
But then my desire to pursue a career that could take me to various places around the world has lingered on. So, I enrolled for a maritime degree on the side, attending night classes after work. I obtained my degree in Marine Transportation from the University of the Visayas. I first went on overseas voyages in 2002 and never looked back. Since then, I have sailed on dry cargo ships of various sizes on worldwide trade carrying various cargoes. Through hard work and perseverance, I have climbed up the ranks to become a Shipmaster.
And now, I’m here to tell you my story and invite you to join me on my journeys. Sign up for my email list and let’s get going! All aboard!
